Polk County Jail is operated by the Polk County Sheriff's Office from the Justice Center in Balsam Lake. The official county jail page describes the facility as a 160-bed jail that opened in 2003 and houses pre-sentence and sentenced inmates. Visit Polk County Jail Inmates
Polk County Jail visitation is video-based. The jail says it uses ICSolutions and directs visitors to GettingOut to create an account and schedule visits. Remote visits are available daily, while on-site video visits are limited to three days each week. All visitation is recorded or monitored. Visitors must create an account, and the county says accounts are approved or denied within a day or two.

Visitors must be at least 18 to visit without a parent or legal guardian. Juvenile children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and that adult must be an authorized visitor for the inmate. The jail also states that visitors who do not follow dress-code rules are not allowed to visit, but the county page does not publish a detailed clothing list.

Polk County Jail Mail and Funds

Post Bond for Polk County Jail
Bond posting is one of the most local parts of the Polk County Jail process. During standard business hours, the jail directs bond posters to the Polk County Clerk of Courts in the Justice Center. The Clerk accepts the bond money and gives a receipt. The bond poster then brings that receipt to the jail, and the inmate is released if no other hold blocks release.
After hours, the person posting bond reports to the jail entrance and uses the intercom to tell jail staff they want to post bond. A corrections officer enters the bond into the inmate banking software, which the county says may take 10 to 20 minutes, and then the lobby kiosk can be used. Online bond posting also starts by calling the jail so staff can enter the bond information before payment through JailATM.
Note: A probation hold, out-of-county warrant, municipal warrant, or other agency hold can prevent release even after one bond is paid.
Polk County Jail Programs
Polk County's most detailed local program is the Electronic Monitoring Program. The jail describes EMP as an alternative to confinement for eligible people who pose minimal risk to the community. The program uses GPS technology, home visits, and random drug screens to monitor movement and compliance. The county also says EMP may fit some people with special needs or home-environment issues that are better managed outside a jail housing unit.
People reporting to serve a sentence may be allowed to keep working or attending a qualifying school if they meet jail and EMP requirements. The county tells future inmates to read, sign, and return the electronic monitoring information application and rules before the report date.
